What It's About
Review
Firstly, I'm very happy to have organised the tour for this book. I've come to know Gina over the past few months and she's an incredibly lovely, hard working and supportive author so it's great to be able to give something back. Underleaf is a collection of 16 short stories - all written by Gina with a paranormal twist and theme to them. They cover a whole range of topics and emotions from heart-break, jealously and even murder. Each story is generally less than 15 pages each so they make for a great quick read but I wouldn't read some of them while you're home alone!
I really enjoyed this collection of stories. Short stories aren't something you can continuously read because you end up craving the character and plot development but every now and again they make a really nice break - to either read as a whole collection or one at a time on coffee breaks. Because the stories are so short, you need something that isn't too complicated for a mere 15 pages or so but something exciting enough that it has an impact in the short space of time and this is what I think Gina did very well in these stories. She builds up enough tension to leave you wondering but doesn't include anything unnecessary that would take up valuable space in the story.
All the stories in this collection cover very different topics and no two are the same. It's hard to tell where each story is going to go when you begin reading it which made it all the more interesting because they weren't predictable. I did have a few "gasp out loud" moments and was left feeling increasingly uneasy during some. I think some of these would translate very well into a full length novel or novella as obviously they were all designed for a limited number of pages, the storylines were quick and snappy but due to the nature of some of the stories, the gradual build up and tension of the events would be fantastic on a more long-term basis. Overall, a very enjoyable and unexpected series.

About Gina Dickerson
Gina Dickerson lives by the Thanet coast on the north-eastern tip of Kent, in the UK, with her family and playful Siberian husky. She is a full-time author and writes romantic suspense with a twist, horror, and fantasy because her characters refuse to play nice and wind up with more than a few bone-rattling skeletons in their closets.
She is the author of the murderous romantic suspense novels Lies Love Tells and Unveiling Christmas, the twisted short story collection, Underleaf, as well as the fantasy, adventurous romance series Mortiswood Tales - the first in the series being Mortiswood: Kaelia Awakening. She has also written fashion and shopping columns for a local newspaper.
When she’s not writing, Gina loves rummaging in vintage clothes shops, taking way too many photographs, and leafing through fashion glossies.
